Job Summary

As a Sr. Packaging Engineer, you will be responsible for larger, more complex package engineering projects in one or more manufacturing areas. The focus is on package design through identification of opportunities and recommending solutions. Perform critical path analysis necessary for management decision-making. You will be skilled in Project Management tools and techniques and will serve as a mentor for lower level personnel. Will work as a team member to ensure that packages are properly designed, production schedules are met, products are delivered to the market on time, cost is contained, and tasks are performed in accordance with our company mission, vision, values and business objectives.

Job Responsibilities

*Design and/or coordinate package trials and component testing for the qualification and validation of new or revised package materials and components. Recommend solutions to packaging problems through interaction with Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Operations, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Engineering, Technical Services, R&D, and vendors.

*Design cost-effective and compliant packages/devices/delivery systems/components (new or revised) for manufacture and marketing through interaction with Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Operations, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Engineering and outside suppliers. Approve molds, dies and other processes used to produce packaging components. Identify opportunities to improve cost effectiveness, line efficiencies and the market share of current products. Determines the characteristics of products and recommends product contact materials that are in compliance with regulatory agencies by investigating new/unique packages or technologies/devices/delivery systems and component materials.

*Coordinate independently, the activities of production facilities, through preparation of package Bills of Material (BOM), drawings and detailed instructions needed for the publication of final package and component specifications. Document and approve new/revised package design/device/delivery system/component specifications. Manage all specification activities from receipt of request for new or revised components through implementation at the plant. Issue Packaging Change Notices (PCN), including an explanation for revision, affected documents and disposition of current inventory, and assure it is communicated throughout the supply chain.

 *Work independently to prepare and update departmental documents (Monthly Tracking Report, project status reports, etc.) and prepare/present technical information. Assist in the preparation and update of departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Job Aids, and Packaging Material Incoming Specifications (PMIS).

Basic Qualifications

*BS in Packaging/Mechanical Engineering/Industrial Design or equivalent related pharmaceutical experience is required. *With a Bachelor’s degree, 8 years of experience in Packaging Engineering and design, including 4 years in the pharmaceutical environment, is required; With a Master’s degree, 6 years of experience in Packaging Engineering and design, including 4 years in the pharmaceutical environment, is required.

*Excellent Communication and Presentation Skills. Proficient in MS Word and MS Excel Software.

*Experience in new product package launches and new package concept launches.
