Amazon resellers encouraged to use induction heat sealing

With many consumers moving their purchasing power online, it is therefore no surprise that Amazon is encouraging its resellers to use sealing methods, such as Selig’s induction heat seals, to ensure consumers receive product fulfilment excellence every time, especially for leak prone liquid packaging.

E-commerce sales have risen significantly during the pandemic, as has the online purchasing of groceries. Previous to the pandemic, only 3-4% of grocery spend in the US was online, this has since surged to 10-15%[i] and consumer spending on Amazon is up 35% compared to the same period last year[ii]. The picture is similar in the UK, with the online grocery market now forecast to grow 25.5% in 2020 – significantly ahead of the 8.5% previously anticipated[iii].

With so much emphasis on delivered goods, the way that they are packaged is key to promoting customer satisfaction and minimising damage, particularly when delivering liquids, pastes, gels and creams. In Amazon’s instructions to resellers, with regards to the packaging and preparation of such items, they have to be able to withstand a 3-foot drop test without the contents leaking or spilling from the container. To do this, resellers of goods marked as non-dangerous are being encouraged to double seal their containers. This can be done via the use of an induction seal, a safety ring, metal clips or plastic wrap band.

John Brown at Selig comments: “Consumers are not likely to repeat buy if they have had a poor first shopping experience with a reseller. To ensure a good repeat purchasing rate and review level, it is essential therefore that the packaging is sufficient for the needs of the product. We are pleased to see that Amazon has acknowledged the important role that induction heat sealing plays in ensuring that liquids, pastes, gels and creams arrive at their destination hermetically sealed and secure.”
